Miller Lake Mainland Camp Rules
Camping & Hiking Rules for use of Miller Lake Mainland Park/Soldier's Lake Area - Scouts Canada, Halifax Region All Scouters share the responsibility to ensure that the following rules are respected: 1. A permit to camp and/or hike card must be filled out and deposited in a designated box for each visit. Registration to Camp/Hike made be made on-line or by filling out a Permit Card/Form. The Permit Form is available on-line and may be printed off and filled out or the Permit Cards are available at the Scout Office and from Cabin Holders. Drop boxes are located on the Boat House (map ref #5), the fence of the Dept. of Transportation Garage (map ref #27) and Harbour West cabin (map ref #19). 2. All camping, hiking and boating must comply to current regulations published by Transport Canada and Scouts Canada - �Bylaws, Policy, Procedures�. 3. Possession or use of alcoholic beverages or other mind altering illicit substances is prohibited. 4. Possession or use of fire arms, snares traps or explosives of any form is prohibited. 5. Cooking and/or camping in the immediate area of the main campfire circle is not an acceptable use for this area. 6. Please use permanent latrines (outhouses) at all times. 7. Please leave the area cleaner than when you found it. Collect and remove all of you garbage from the Miller Mainland Park/Soldier's Lake area. 8. Safety and First Aid is the responsibility of the Group Leader. 9. Camping and hiking is only on Scouts Canada property (see Miller Lake map for boundaries) Permission to use other property must be obtained from owners. 10. Felling or damaging of live trees is prohibited. (Dead fall may be used). 11. All outdoor fires must be in permanent fire pits. Temporary fire pits are not permitted. Outdoor fires are subject to Dept of Natural Resources rules and must be supervised. 12. Activities must take into consideration that Scouting is co-ed. 13. No parking is permitted on the Fire Road, in front of the gate leading to the Pump house and please note that the Dept of Transportation have posted "No Parking" signs on the east side (Soldier's Lake side) of the Perrin Drive (which are regularly being enforced by local Law Enforcement). 14. No Motorized vehicles (including ATVs and Skidoos) are prohibited from using any of the trails or being on the property of the Miller Mainland Park/Soldier's Lake Reserve property. 15. Miller Lake water is not suitable for drinking, unless treated. It can be used for washing or cooking. ** In case of emergency call 911. Give civic location number as either; - 100 Perrin Dr (Fire Road to DOT Pump House) - 160 Perrin Dr (Trail near Hammonds Plains Cabin), or - 260 Perrin Dr (Akerland Field) - 501 Perrin Dr (NS Power Road to Soldiers Lake Dam) ** "Be Prepared" and always know which emergency response location is closest to you.
