More years than I care to remember ago I became a Scout in 1st Kentville, I was very proud of that uniform and what it told people about me. Later, as an adult I wore the uniform with pride as I mentored to youth in Scouts and Venturers. After a long hiatus I'm back in a little different uniform but I am still proud of what it stands for today. We need to instill in our youth that same pride in that uniform and willingness to be seen by their peers in it. They need to know that it means something and they are part of something in which they can feel pride. I hope to have a number of opportunities for members from all sections in Scouting to represent our movement in the community. Please encourage your youth to volunteer and participate wherever they can.

That brings me to the point of this email. I am seeking applicants for a youth Public Relations team for Halifax Area.

The team will:

• Take on projects which will enhance the image of the movement in Halifax Area.
• Represent scouting as special ambassadors at events
• Cover events for the scouting community for the Roundup, Web site and promotional purposes
• Create 'buzz' in the new media
• Promote Scouting internally and externally

Applicants might have an interest and skills in:

• public speaking
• writing
• photography
• visual arts
• media such as radio, television, internet blogging
• creating web sites.

They should have:

• an ability to work with others as a team
• be cheerful and willing to try new things

The Youth PR Team is in the developmental stage and the activities can only be guessed at right now but the aim is to get youth out and to spread the word internally and externally that we are here, alive vibrant and relevant to the world today. It is by the efforts of youth, speaking to their peers and the community in old and new ways that we will increase our membership accomplish our goals.
